Before you browse sale pages, write down a few purchases you already intend to make. For each one, note the usual price you have seen, the specifications that matter, and the most you are willing to spend. Include a deadline if you need the item by a particular date. A short list is easier to use than a collection of every product that has caught your eye.
That preparation puts a countdown in perspective. An offer must meet an existing need; the timer does not get to create a new one. Say you need a particular model of headphones with a specific connection type. A steep discount on a different version is not the deal you were waiting for, even if the product name looks nearly identical. Compare the exact model number rather than relying on a sale banner.
Your maximum spend should be a decision you make before seeing a discount. If an item usually costs more than you want to pay, an impressive percentage off may still leave it outside your budget. Having that number on your watchlist lets you assess the offer without moving the goalposts at checkout.
